Welcome to PAWN Special Education!

PAWN Special Education is an inclusive community where all persons will reside, grow, and benefit by being with each other at home, at school, and in the community. The mission of PAWN Special Education is to deliver an array of services, facilitate the education of students, and provide opportunities for successful, meaningful learning. PAWN Special Education serves students birth to age 22 in the districts of Park Rapids ISD #309, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley ISD #113, Nevis ISD #308, Pine Point ISD #25 and the Up North Learning Center #6099.

Walker Hackensack Akeley School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, or disability in its programs and activities. The district has designated the following individuals to coordinate compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. Statute 1681) is an all-encompassing federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of the sex of students and employees of educational institutions that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX reads: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance ..." Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and its implementing regulation at 34 C.F.R. Part 106 (Title IX). In compliance with Title IX, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School District prohibits discrimination in all educational programs and activities on the basis of sex.
